Do you happen to be running this under some form of Windows OS?  I have
heard that is an issue (not related to Herc) with "accpting" more than
15 connections in a Windows environment.

You can't have more than 10 sessions to a desktop mapping drives, but
Hercules is not file mapping. Just to be sure I connected 20 loop-back
sessions on my laptop running Windows/2000. All connected fine. However
I was running VM/370R6 not MVS. Can I suggest that you check you VTAM
and TSO definitions.

Dave.

Gary Gregory-2
Are you running MVS under VM or "native"?  I can help you with the VTAM
defintions if you're interested.

I suppose your MVS system is already up ?

In this case, you probaly already have some 3270 devices defined.

Look at the result of the MVS command :  D U,GRAPHIC

00- 12.41.41           d u,graphic,,,10
    12.41.41           IEE457I 12.41.41 UNIT STATUS 400
    UNIT TYPE STATUS        VOLSER     VOLSTATE
    0700 3270 C
    0701 3277 OFFLINE
    0702 3277 OFFLINE
    0703 3277 OFFLINE
    0900 3277 A
    0901 3277 A
    0902 3277 A
    0903 3277 A

Some of the addresses 0700-0703 et 0900-0903 must be defined in your hercules CNF file like this :

#
0700    3270
0900    3270
0901    3270

On a second hand, I defined the VTAM LU with the addresses 070x and 090x into Majnodes.
You probaly have a node like that:

Look at the VTAM command : D NET,MAJNODES
The result is a list of active VTAM nodes .
Search for node with a TYPE = 3270 as :

IST089I NSNA70X  TYPE = LCL 3270 MAJ NODE, ACTIV
IST089I NSNA90X  TYPE = LCL 3270 MAJ NODE, ACTIV

NSNA70X is the node containing my 3270 console devices.
NSNA90X is the node containing my 3270 terminal devices.

Look at the VTAM commande : D NET,E,ID=NSNA70X
The result is a list of defined consoles :

IST097I DISPLAY ACCEPTED
IST075I NAME = NSNA70X, TYPE = LCL 3270 MAJ NODE 423
IST486I STATUS= ACTIV, DESIRED STATE= ACTIV
IST355I LOGICAL UNITS:
IST089I LCL701   TYPE = LOGICAL UNIT     , NEVAC      ,CUA=0701
IST089I LCL702   TYPE = LOGICAL UNIT     , NEVAC      ,CUA=0702
IST089I LCL703   TYPE = LOGICAL UNIT     , NEVAC      ,CUA=0703
IST089I LCL704   TYPE = LOGICAL UNIT     , NEVAC      ,CUA=0704

The definition of each VTAM node are store into the PDS allocated at the VTAM stc under the DDNAME "VTAMLST"

Look at the first line of the definition of the node NSNA70X :

*/* SYS1.DYNXID.VTAMLST(NSNA70X)
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
*/* NON-SNA LOCAL TERMINAL DEFINITIONS
*/*
*/* 3174 (AWS3274/LAN3274) DEVICES (70X)
*/*
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
LCL70X  LBUILD
*/*
LCL701   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=701,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB
*/*
LCL702   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=702,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB

You can see the correspondance with the VTAM LU and the device address.

Remember that the list of the node who must be activated at VTAM statup are list in the member ATCCONxx
The USSTAB describes the name of the USS load module.
It is the first VTAM panel who will be displayed when the LU became actived.

Verify the different point described here.

regard.

*/* SYS1.DYNXID.VTAMLST(NSNA70X)
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
*/* NON-SNA LOCAL TERMINAL DEFINITIONS
*/*
*/* 3174 (AWS3274/LAN3274) DEVICES (70X)
*/*
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
LCL70X  LBUILD
*/*
LCL701   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=701,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB
*/*
LCL702   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=702,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB

You can see the correspondance with the VTAM LU and the device address.

Remember that the list of the node who must be activated at VTAM statup are list in the member ATCCONxx
The USSTAB describes the name of the USS load module.
It is the first VTAM panel who will be displayed when the LU became actived.

Verify the different point described here.

regard.

*/* SYS1.DYNXID.VTAMLST(NSNA70X)
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
*/* NON-SNA LOCAL TERMINAL DEFINITIONS
*/*
*/* 3174 (AWS3274/LAN3274) DEVICES (70X)
*/*
*/* ------------------------------------------------------------------
*/*
LCL70X  LBUILD
*/*
LCL701   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=701,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB
*/*
LCL702   LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=702,FEATUR2=(EDATS,MODEL2),            -
               USSTAB=USSN,DLOGMOD=DYNAMICB

You can see the correspondance with the VTAM LU and the device address.

Remember that the list of the node who must be activated at VTAM statup are list in the member ATCCONxx
The USSTAB describes the name of the USS load module.
It is the first VTAM panel who will be displayed when the LU became actived.

Verify the different point described here.

regard.

  2 Could you suggest me how I adjust the definition of VTAM and TSO

  Who can give me the definition.

RE: »Ø¸´£º Re: »Ø¸´£º Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

Gary Brabiner
Your Hercules config file tells me that you have defined 100 3270 devices start at 0470 (0471, 0472, etc)
    0470.100  3270

The output from the D U,GRAPHIC command indicates that the MVS has 3270 devices starting at 0440, but the output is truncated at 044F. The status is also OFFLINE which says that there is no "physical" device (i.e. not defined in Hercules).
Try a D U,GRAPHIC,999 or D U,GRAPHIC,,999 ...... can't remember exact syntax. This overrides the default display of 16 devices.

The D NET,MAJNODE output seems to indicate that the 3270 devices have been defined to vtam thru the LOCALPKG member. Can you please list the contents of the SYS1.VTAMLST(LOCALPKG) member. Either this or one of the other members has a definition for every 3270 that you want to use to logon to TSO or other vtam applications.
If this member already has definitions for the 0440, 0441, etc devices, then you should be able to add this device range to the Hercules configuration and maybe get some more screens.
e.g.
    0440.16   3270
    0470.100  3270

Regards, GaryB

Re: »Ø¸´£º Re: »Ø¸´£º Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

gbergonzo-2
The format of the command D U,... is as follow:

DISPLAY UNIT,unit_type,unit_status,first_address,number

where unit_type can be DASD,TAPE,GRAPHIC,UR,TP, ..
and unit_status can be ONLINE, OFFLINE or ALLOC
first_address can be, for you, 470
number specified the number of device to display.

To search the exact location of your definition VTAM member LOCALPKG,
you must look at the VTAM stc (It's name maybe NET or VTAM)
You can view the stc under SDSF or in the syslog (at startup) or you can search the proclib concatenation.

Point all the dsname allocated at ddname //VTAMLST in sequence until you find the member.

470.100   3270
is specifying that your 3270 device range begins at address 470 and ends at address 4D4.

Adding device 440 to your Hercules cnf will probaly resolve your problem.
If not, you must compile another USSTAB and change le LU définition with the pamameter USSTAB=name.

The USS load-module must be place into à loadlib spécified at ddname //VTAMLIB.
You also probably need to send the next command V NET,INACT,ID=LOCALPKG
and V NET,ACT,ID=LOCALPKG to reload the USS load_module.

regards.

If not, you must compile another USSTAB and change le LU d茅finition with the pamameter USSTAB=name.

The USS load-module must be place into loadlib sp茅cified at ddname //VTAMLIB.
You also probably need to send the next command V NET,INACT,ID=LOCALPKG
and V NET,ACT,ID=LOCALPKG to reload the USS load_module.

regards.

Re: 回复: Re: 禄赂麓拢潞 Re: 禄赂麓拢潞 Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

gbergonzo-2
Here are some examples of creating an USSTAB  :

- the JCL to assemble the USSTAB
(it is a simple ASMA90 job)

- the source of the USSTAB (allocated at ddname : //SYSIN, dsname :  SYSS.VTAMLST(USSTAB) )

The load-module will be store into SYSS.VTAMLIB(USSN)

nb. If the load-module is a new one and it has not already be loaded by VTAM at startup,
you have nothing else to do, otherwise, you need to reload the table using the command :

F vtam_proc_name,TABLE,OPTION=LOAD,NEWTAB=table_name

you can easily get some USSTAB samples in the SYS1.SAMPLIB dataset.

regards.

Gilles

  If not, you must compile another USSTAB and change le LU d茅finition with the pamameter USSTAB=name.

  The USS load-module must be place into loadlib sp茅cified at ddname //VTAMLIB.
  You also probably need to send the next command V NET,INACT,ID=LOCALPKG
  and V NET,ACT,ID=LOCALPKG to reload the USS load_module.

  regards.

Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

Gary Brabiner

To get more terminal sessions you need to get the following 3 components in sync or at least with enough
overlap for what you need:
1) hercules defined 3270s (as from hercules.cnf)
2) MVS gened 3270 devices (as from D U,GRAPHIC)
3) VTAM defined terminals (as from LOCALPKG vtamlst member)
If an address does is not in all 3 places, then it just won't work.

Changing the USSTAB won't give you more terminals.

My suggestion is that the hardest thing to change is 2) MVS gened devices, so lets work around this.
a) define hercules 3270 devices starting at 440. However it looks like every 16th devices is a printer, so
change it to this:
0440.15  3270
0450.15  3270
0460.15  3270
0470.15  3270
0480.15  3270
b) change the LOCALPKG member to add an entry (2 lines) for each of the new addresses from 440 thru
45E. You can define the xxF addresses but they cannot be used as terminals, I believe due to your IOgen.
example:
L440    LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=440,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,MODETAB=DSVMODE,     X
                  DLOGMOD=S32782,USSTAB=USSTABT
L441    LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=441,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,MODETAB=DSVMODE,     X
                  DLOGMOD=S32782,USSTAB=USSTABT
L442    LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=442,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,MODETAB=DSVMODE,     X
                  DLOGMOD=S32782,USSTAB=USSTABT

Remember to change both places where the address is entered and ensure that the "X" in column 71 is
there otherwise it won't work.
b) then re-ipl and if you have done everything okay you should have access to 60 or so terminals.

Regards, GaryB

RE: Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

Gary Gregory-2
Gary,

If you don't mind my adding a little bit of information about the USSTAB ...

As mentioned, below, the USSTAB won't give you more terminals, it's
basically a program that's called by VTAM that allows an installation to use
local messages in place of the IBM system messages.  For example USS message
10 is the local "logo" screen, message 1 can replace the default message
that the bind (logon) request has been accepted, etc.

Gary G

How do I re-ipl? Could you give me the detail of re-ipl? Thanks.

ww,

A re-ipl is just shutting down the MVS and then ipl-ing it again as you currently do with Hercules.

Re: Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

gbergonzo-2
Did you modify your LOCALPKG VTAM definition member ?

As telling you before, you must define the 44x 3270 devices at the three places.

- in the hercules .cnf
- in the IODF (but already defined)
- in the LOCALPRG member

TERM=3277,CUADDR=440,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,MODETAB=DSVMODE,     X
DLOGMOD=S32782,USSTAB=USSTABT

IPL is not necessary if you can send the next two commands :

V NET,INACT,ID=LOCALPKG,F
et
V NET,ACT,ID=LOCALPKG

After this, you can have the 47x and the 44x devices known by VTAM and activated.

Other hand, look at the result of the command D TS,L
who display the TSO session limit (MAX=nn)

To change the TSO session limit, you can use :
F TSO,USERMAX=nn

nb. About the USSTAB, let's down.
I thank that you DO NOT have any session.
If one is ok, your USSTAB is ok.

RE: Re: How can hercules break the limit for 15 users connection

Gary Brabiner
In reply to this post by wwxxll2005
Ww,

Not sure where 0400 comes from.
The output from D NET, TERMS commands indicates that you only have 0470 thru
047E (15 devices) defined to vtam. You need to tell VTAM which device
addresses he can use and it is these that allow you to logon to TSO.

Please add lines to LOCALPKG member for each address 0440 thru 046E similar
to below: (note that 440 is in 2 places)
L440    LOCAL TERM=3277,CUADDR=440,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,MODETAB=DSVMODE,     X
              DLOGMOD=S32782,USSTAB=USSTABT

When this change is activated either by an IPL or by
"V NET,INACT,F,ID=LOCALPKG" and then "V NET,ACT,ID=LOCALPKG" you should be
able to do a D NET,TERMS and get a lot more displays.

You really need to know a lot more about MVS before you begin playing with
it at this level. I am not saying that you can't do it but you run the risk
of creating a syntax error in a file and them not being able to logon to fix
it.
Is there anyway that you can expose your Hercules machine (or port 3270) to
the web and allow me to logon? I could probably fix it in no time at all.

Regards, GaryB
