Missing DLL error message

Hercules390 - Mvs mailing list
Getting the following error message after IPL of z/os with Hercules 3.07 running on WIN10-64:

 tt32_loaddll: LoadLibraryEx("TunTap64.dll") failed; rc=126

I have found some old posts relating to windows 7 install issues but not sure if all that still relevant to current Hercules and Windows 10.

Have you installed the softdevlabs ctci-win utilities ?

http://www.softdevlabs.com/ctci-win.html

Also you should install hercules 3.12  :

http://www.hercules-390.eu/

(http://www.hercules-390.org/  needs to be either retired or updated )

Thanks for the info. So just to clarify, upgrading to Hercules 3.12 will not fix my issue unless I also install the CTCI  utilities ?

Re: Missing DLL error message

After upgrading Hercules and installing CTCI-WIN the DLL missing error message no longer appear but the following messages showed up:

23:09:48 HHCTU005E Invalid net device name specified:
23:09:48 HHCTU011E Invalid net device name specified:
23:09:48 HHCLC008E ioctl error on device : Bad file descriptor.

Not sure to what device these messages apply to.

Re: Missing DLL error message

Those messages are referring to whatever Channel-to-Channel adapter
statements you have in your hercules.cnf file.

Post your config file and someone (maybe even me) will spot the error.

But you might check the Hercules manual first for the syntax :)

Re: Missing DLL error message

There is only one CTC related line in the CNF file:

 #********************************************************************
 # CTCI COMMUNICATION DEVICES                                        *
 #********************************************************************
 0E20.2   LCS  10.0.1.20

Should LCS be changed to CTCI ?

Change it to
0E20.2   LCS -n <hostIp>  <guestIP>

e.g
#     192.168.0.2 is the windows/linux host    192.168.0.222 is the MVS guest
0E20.2 LCS -n 192.168.0.2  192.168.0.222

Re: Missing DLL error message

Hercules390 - Mvs mailing list
I modified the LCS syntax:

 0E20.2   LCS -n 192.168.1.28 192.168.1.128

Now the following error messages appear in the Hercules log before MVS is IPLed:

 09:17:58 TunTap64.dll version ** UNPAID TRIAL COPY **  3.4.1.4276 initiated
 09:17:58 HHCTU002E Error opening TUN/TAP device: 192.168.1.28: Permission denied
 09:17:58 HHCLC073I 0E20: TAP device  opened
09:17:58 HHCLC074W TT32SDEVBUFF failed for device : Bad file descriptor.
09:17:58 HHCLC075W TT32SIOBUFF failed for device : Bad file descriptor.

When MVS ipl is complete the following messages are displayed:

09:19:48 HHCTU005E Invalid net device name specified:
09:19:48 HHCTU011E Invalid net device name specified:
09:19:48 HHCLC008E ioctl error on device : Bad file descriptor.

Re: Missing DLL error message

Hercules390 - Mvs mailing list
I was able to resolve the above errors by starting Hercules with ADMIN authority. Now the following messages appear:

 09:37:20 TunTap64.dll version ** UNPAID TRIAL COPY **  3.4.1.4276 initiated
 09:37:21 HHCLC073I 0E20: TAP device tap0 opened

 09:38:49 HHCLC055I tap0 using MAC 00:00:5E:A8:01:1C
 09:38:49 HHCLC056W tap0 NOT using MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00

Is this what I should be seeing ?

Re: Missing DLL error message

Hercules390 - Mvs mailing list
One more question relating to the TCPIP setup on the z/os side. In my case the adapter IP is 192.168.1.23 and the internal guest IP is 192.168.1.123
Can someone show me an example of the required definitions of the CTC adapter in
 the TCPIP PROFILE member ?

What is the most simple way to test if the LCS interface in the z/os guest is correctly configured and connected to the outside world ?
